Greetings from the Tenna Sea!
I grew up on the Tennessee River and had my own boat at age 10. That began a lifelong love affair with boats and the water which lead to my owning some 40 boats to this point. That first 12 foot jon boat lead to numerous bass boats, runabouts, triple digit speed go-fast boats, cruisers, motor yachts, and my largest, personal boat to date, a 58' Hatteras as pictured in this section.
As a testament to my abilities, I single handed that 58 Hatt from Pensacola to Chattanooga a few years ago... on just the port engine. No bow thruster, no autopilot, just me. That's over 700 miles, 14 locks, and 1 engine. This after running the boat another 300+ miles on one engine across the Gulf with a ride along mate from Palmetto to Panama City, then to Pensacola. It's not something I would recommend, but it is proof that I can get the job done under less than ideal circumstances.
My operating experience includes the entire length of the Tennessee River and its tributaries, the Tennessee Tombigbee Waterway, the Ohio, Mississippi, and Illinois River up to Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. I've also covered the entire coastline of Florida, both coastal and ICW, The Keys, the Okeechobee Waterway, Kissimmee River, New River, Saint Johns River as well as The Bahamas to Turks & Caicos Islands. Add to that the coast (outside and ICW) of Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia and through New York City to the east end of Long Island Sound.
As for personal information, I am a 64 year old, non-smoking, college educated, retail business owner of over 40 years who understands the meaning of customer service. With that, I will treat your boat as if it were my own, and I will get it from point A to point B as quickly, safely, and economically as possible. I typically run 10 hours per day, weather permitting, so my clients get a full day's work for a day's pay. You will never find drugs or alcohol on your boat... unless you left them there. :)
Feel free to contact me with any questions. When you are ready to move your boat, or if you just need personal instruction on how to operate your boat, I'm your guy.
Captain Randy Register
USCG 100 Ton Master Captain
Near Coastal w/Towing
Daily Captain rate is $395.00 per day for up to 10 hours. We all know situations can present themselves which require running longer or shorter days. Should it become necessary to run more than 12 hours in one day, any time over that will result in an hourly surcharge of $60 per hour, which is the standard overtime rate of 1.5 x the standard hourly rate. I will run 10 hours if marina spacing allows it.
Daily rate for a Mate, when needed, is $105. That makes for a nice tidy package of $500.00 per day, which is what most Captains with even less experience charge for themselves. I simply enjoy delivering yachts, so there you go.
The above will be in addition to any expenses involved in getting to/from the boat, including air fare and ground transportation. There will be a travel day before the departure date, and another after. It is possible that may not be the case depending on timing. Any delays as the result of mechanical failure, weather or any other situation that has the boat sitting still beyond my control will be charged at the rates above. I strongly suggest my customers have their boats fully serviced as paying me to sit and watch a mechanic work on your boat just adds insult to injury. Not only that, you are at the mercy of wherever such a failure occurs.
The biggest culprit I usually experience is water pump impellers. If you aren't absolutely sure of when they were last changed, and how many hours of run time are on the engines, spend a few bucks and have them replaced. Sitting is what kills them.
Beyond that meals will also be part of the expenses. That generally involves sandwiches for lunch, and dinner at a restaurant at or near the marina where we call it a day. If you accompany me on the trip, you will set the tone for the amount of money spent. If I (and my mate) move the boat alone, I will happy to offer a flat per diem rate that will preclude any all you can eat lobster dinners. Not that I would do that, of course, unless you are with me and that's what you order and insist I do the same. :)
What you will find as others before you, I spend your money as though it were my own. I will run your boat at hull speed where it is most economical, unless you tell me you want it delivered faster. I provide for my customers in advance, a comparison of what it will cost to run at hull speed vs whatever speed you choose.
Beyond all the above, most find me an easy person to get along with as I'm not the excitable type. If you are, bless your heart, I'll be kind. I tend to look at life on the lighter side, and most enjoy my company which usually results in yet another lifetime friendship. You will find a copy of my delivery contract that you can read in advance and know exactly how all this works. It's actually in plain English and doesn't require a law degree to comprehend.
Personal instruction is the same as my daily rate plus travel expenses if overnight stays are required. There will be no other expenses beyond fuel unless I fly. The 10 hours start when I leave wherever I may be and return to whatever point the day brings.
I look forward to serving you.
